Theatre teacher Crystal Smith was named 2022 Kempner Teacher of the Year, selected by a campus committee. "I first met Ms. Smith as a parent when my daughter tried out for the school musical in her sophomore year," said Kempner principal Dr. Danielle Jackson. "I was so impressed by the production but most of all by the positive experience my daughter had as part of the cast.

"Now as an administrator, I continue to appreciate all the opportunities Ms. Smith and the theatre department provide to our students at Kempner High School."

In addition to Smith, Caroline Bartlett (math/AVID), Kelly Bird (science/athletics) and Rebecca Humble (math) were also named finalists for the honor.
