Mrs. Melissa C. Jones
I was born in Dallas and raised in Daingerfield, TX, where I attended Daingerfield High School and was a member of the Daingerfield High School Bengal Belle Drill Team. While I was on the drill team, I was Co-Captain my junior year. After high school, I was fortunate to attend Sam Houston State University, where I studied Dance and graduated in 2002 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Dance. While attending Sam Houston State University, I was a member of the Spectrum Dance Company, and a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
My career in Dance Education began at Houston ISD at Mirabeau B. Lamar High School in 2002. I was one of three dance teachers, and I taught Hip Hop and Modern Dance Classes, levels I-IV and was Head Director of the acclaimed Lamar Rangerettes Dance Team. My time at Lamar High School concluded in 2006, when I began teaching in my current position at Willowridge High School. During my time at Willowridge, I received my Master's Degree in Educational Administration from Concordia University in Austin, TX, and was selected as the 2015-2016 Teacher of the Year. I am currently in my 21st year as a Dance Educator, serving as the Head Director of the Willowridge High School Dance Program, including the TWO-time nationally award-winning Enchanting Wings Dance Team. I have been a part of the Eagle family at Willowridge High School for 17 years, serving as the Head Dance Teacher for grades 9-12/Dance I-IV. I am truly honored and proud to serve as Director of such an illustrious, well-respected program. In addition to serving as the Dance Program Director, I currently serve as a TAAP Mentor and WHS Fine Arts Department Head.
I love teaching dance because it's my ministry. I'm more than just a dance teacher, but someone who directly impacts the lives of my students. I love seeing them grow and develop into confident young ladies and gentlemen. Instilling confidence, building self-esteem, and motivating my students are what I do best. I have so much passion for sharing my love for dance with my students and making sure they have the necessary tools for succeeding after they graduate from high school.
