Willowridge High School is currently undergoing extensive clean-up efforts to remove mold that facilities crews discovered in the building this summer. The clean-up process will take some time as environmental experts work 24 hours, seven days a week to ensure that no area of the school is overlooked, as the health and safety of our students and staff is the top priority.
To keep our parents, staff, students and community informed of the latest developments in the clean-up process and the reopening of the school, we’ve created this webpage to provide accurate and timely updates. Here you can learn more about the mold remediation process, how FBISD is supporting WHS, the plans that are being finalized to accommodate students and staff as the school year begins, and how you can join in community efforts to support the school.
While we regret the inconvenience this process has caused to the WHS community, FBISD is committed to doing everything possible to ensure the building is safe and ready for a fresh new start to another great year at Willowridge.
This summer, WHS was shut down for planned construction, and during that time, mold was found in parts of the building. FBISD immediately took action, and is working with environmental experts to clean and sanitize the building. For more background information, please read Mr. Graham’s July 19 message to the community.
What is FBISD doing to help Willowridge?
FBISD district staff members are overseeing the extensive clean-up efforts, are working closely with the WHS administration to ensure that they receive the support and resources they need for the start of the school year, regardless of where they begin the 2017-18 school year. Restoring the campus is somewhat similar to preparing a newly-constructed campus.
FBISD will purchase and fill the school with new flooring, ceiling tile, sheetrock, classroom and office furniture and instructional materials and equipment to ensure that students and staff receive what they need to enjoy a fresh new start to the school year.
How can you help?
FBISD leaders are working closely with WHS administrators to make sure all instructional materials, furniture and other items that have been lost are replaced as quickly as possible, and staff members have all of the resources and support they needs for the successful start of year. In the meantime, we understand that many in the community have expressed a desire to also provide assistance, and so Mr. Graham has identified a list of supplies that are always in high-demand, and would be appreciated as his teachers return to campus. An online account has also been set up to assist WHS staff members and students. Proceeds from any donations to this account will be used by WHS staff and students for supplemental and enhancement purposes. More information on how you can help.
