Internet Safety

Fort Bend ISD has a number of programs in place to educate students, parents and staff on how to stay safe online. It is our commitment to ensure that each student is educated in the areas of cyberbullying, identity theft, online predators, texting and sexting and other internet safety topics.
- Students in Grades K-12 view a Digital Citizenship video upon their return to school in August. This presentation reviews best practices and district policies.
- Students in Fort Bend ISD receive instruction using the District’s Internet Safety curriculum a minimum of once per grading period.
- The 2014-2015 “Digital Citizenship Policy” is located in the Parent/Student Handbook: Electronic Devices and Technology Resources/Digital Citizenship.
- Stop. Think. Connect. Take security precautions, understand the consequences of your actions and behaviors and enjoy the benefits of the Internet.
- NetSmartz, sponsored by The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, provides information and resources to law enforcement, parents and children.
- The District’s Internet Safety Policy has been revised and is available.
- FBI-Safe Online Surfing features six grade-specific “islands” for 3rd thru 8th grades highlighting various aspects of cyber security through games, videos, and other interactive features.
- Before You Text - The Texas School Safety Center created a 7 module program for parents and students that talks about sexting, but also bullying, cyber bullying and in Module 6 it reviews the long term implications of these topics on college and job applications.
- Texas Office of the Attorney General - Cyber-Safety safety resources for parents, educators, kids, tweens, and teens.
- Common Sense Media provides the latest research, tips and tools on what really keeps kids safe.
