Athletic Director Troy DeGar has been named the Kempner Houston Area Alliance of Black School Educators Teacher of the Year. DeGar, a newcomer to Kempner but not to education, coaches football and leads the campus in its athletic endeavors. 

"Coach DeGar is an impact player here at Kempner High School," said Principal Dr. Danielle Jackson. "He is not only providing students opportunities athletically, but also setting up a culture of character and class which exemplifies the Kempner Way. We are so fortunate to have someone with his knowledge and experience here at Kempner."

DeGar will be honored at a citywide gala in January.
