Dual Credit FAQs

  • What is a Dual Credit course?

    Dual credit courses are offered to students in FBISD through Houston Community College. Dual credit courses are college courses that you take while in high school. Since you are taking a college course, FBISD gives you high school credit.

    ***English 1301, English 1302, and College Algebra are only offered as embedded courses at Bush High School.

    What are the requirements for Dual Credit at BHS?

    To take dual credit courses, students must meet the requirements below:

    • English 1301/1302
      At least one of the following: 
      • PSAT-460
      • TSI-945 and Essay 5 or MC:910-944, Diagnosis 5-6, Essay 5-8
      • EOC-English II 4000
      • SAT-480
      • ACT Composite score 23
    • Government
      At least one of the following: 
      • PSAT-460
      • TSI-945 and Essay 5 or MC:910-944, Diagnosis 5-6, Essay 5-8
      • EOC-English II 4000
      • SAT-480
      • ACT Composite score 23
    • Economics
      At least one of the following:
      • PSAT-460
      • TSI-945 and Essay 5 or MC:910-944, Diagnosis 5-6, Essay 5-8
      • EOC-English II 4000
      • SAT-480
      • ACT Composite score 23
      • AND Math College Readiness:
        • PSAT-510
        • TSI-950 or 910-949, Diagnosis 6
        • SAT-530
        • ACT-Composite score 23 All 3
    • College Algebra
      At least one of the following: 
      • PSAT-510
      • TSI-950 or 910-949, Diagnosis 6
      • SAT-530

    3. Submit HCC Application Step by Step Application  Instructions  ( [Due: March 1st] 
    4. Complete the following documents and save them as PDFs:
      IMPORTANT: You need to apply to HCC before completing these forms, as you will need your HCC number. All documents must be PDF. No pictures or screenshots will be accepted. If these are not in PDF form, your application will be rejected and your place on line will be lost. Remember, Dual Credit is on a first-come, first-served basis.) 

      a. HCC Dual Credit Waiver Form (Summer and Fall Dual Credit courses can be on one waiver.) Leave "High School Official" and "College P-16 Director" Signatures blank 

             Waiver Form Examples: When filling out the Dual Credit Waiver Form – here is an
             example for the Fall/Spring (please choose BHS for fall/spring) 

           

            For SUMMER DC Please change the Semester to Summer 1 or Summer 2 based on
            when you would like to take the course and the location to HCC or Online.  
            Summer 1 Dates: 6/6/22-7/10/22
            Summer 2 Dates: 7/13/22-8/14/22 Notice summer 2 ends after FBISD starts school
                                         again. If a student takes a F2F class in summer 2 it will have to be
                                         after 3 pm.) 

           b. Dual Credit Student Commitment Form

           c. Copy of Test Scores (Visit College Board to download test scores. Must be PDF.) PSAT
               or SAT or TSI

           d. FERPA Release Form (FERPA example)

    Submit BHS Dual Credit Waiver Form, Student Commitment Form, and any test scores you have to Ms. Kinney no later than 3:00p.m. on March 1st in J106. There will be a white box taped to the door for you to put your forms in. 

    Once the forms have been submitted to BHS and HCC, students are NOT allowed to add courses. Be sure to list ALL courses you plan to enroll in before submitting the form(s). Students may drop courses on the list; students may not add courses to the list.
