The Fort Settlement Orchestras currently consist of ability-based ensembles. Sometimes up to 6 ensembles are used, all depending on the overall number of the program and the balance each ensemble can accommodate. These performing orchestras are made up of mostly 7th and 8th graders, but 6th graders with previous playing experience can audition for consideration into these groups.
Sub-Non Varsity Orchestras
This orchestra focuses on building and nourishing posture, musical technique, and sight reading skills, to create a more cohesive orchestral sound. Students at this level are highly encouraged to learn the All-Region Audition material, and participate in UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest. Students at this level may be required to attend before and after school rehearsals, as scheduled (no more than once every week for 40 minutes) for about two months in the Spring semester.
Non-Varsity Orchestras
To play at this level, students must demonstrate a mastery of vibrato, the ability to cleanly play in upper positions, and be able to consistently and cleanly sight read intermediate level music. Students at this level are highly encouraged to participate in All-Region Auditions, and UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest. Students at this level may be required to attend before and after school rehearsals, as scheduled (no more than once every week for 40 minutes) for about two months in the Spring semester.
Varsity Orchestras
Students at this level are expected to perform with precision, energy and a high level of musicianship. Students at this level are also required to participate in All-Region Auditions, UIL Ensemble Contest, and many other orchestral competitions both live and recorded. Students are also expected to attend sectionals outside of the school day (no more than once every week for 45 minutes).
