Our program is excited to provide numerous opportunities for different levels of student leadership in each grade. We run two separate councils with different positions, each filling an important and unique role for our program.

Leadership Team
Available Positions: Elected Leadership Team
String Leaders, though filled through an application, are considered part of the leadership team.

Orchestra officers for each level of orchestra will be elected by a simple majority vote of students during the Fall semester.

The offices of President, Class Representatives, and Social Media Chairs will be elected by a simple majority vote of students in the Fall semester for the current school year.

Students may not hold more than one leadership team office.
General qualifications for all positions:

The student must set a good example for all orchestra students through musicianship, general attitude, and cooperation.

The student must be in good academic and disciplinary standing with their teachers and administrators.

The student must be able to fulfill the requirements of the position per the Directors’ discretion.
Expectations in addition to the position’s responsibilities:

All officers will be expected to attend officers’ meetings which will be held either from 8:00 AM – 8:30 AM or 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM. There will be at least four meetings throughout the year.

All officers will be responsible for rendering assistance to the Directors or the Orchestra President when asked to do so. Failure to help when asked can result in removal from office.
Campaign Regulations:
All interested candidates will create a campaign video that includes the following required information:
Name and class period
Position for which you are running
Why your fellow students should vote for you (leadership experience, years in orchestra, volunteer experience, etc.)!
Campaign Video Requirements:
Use your favorite video editing software to create your video
Your video may be no longer than 2 minutes
Your video must be appropriate and tasteful.
There is no negative campaigning! Only give YOUR qualities. Do not discuss the qualities of ANY other person.
Duties & Responsibilities
Orchestra President (1)
Responsibilities
Acts as representative of the Orchestra.
Helps Directors to organize and direct the officers, and assists directors with co- curricular event planning
Collaborate with other officers on all projects
Lead and facilitate the orchestra council meetings
Qualifications
Strong leadership skills
Commitment to the orchestra
Has good Public Relations skills and can make air and impartial decisions
Two years in Orchestra (8th Grade only).
Class Representative (10 – one per class)
Responsibilities
Will take roll each day in class and in rehearsals when asked by a director
Will be responsible for taking attendance at concerts for their class during concert check in times
Assist with paperwork and monthly birthday recognition of class members
Qualifications
6th, 7th, or 8th Grade—one per class/section
Good organizational skills
Good communication skills
Orchestra Social Media Chair (2)
Responsibilities
Create and follow a social media theme and calendar for posting
Publicize socials, concerts, and other events on Twitter and Instagram
Post and advertise the program on all social media accounts in a positive manner
Campus advertisements for concerts
Qualifications
Have a smart phone with internet access
Creative and collaborative
Good organizational skills
One year in Orchestra (7th or 8th Grade)

Technical Team
Available Positions: Application Technical Team
These positions will be filled through an application. Directors will make the final decision.
Orchestra Librarians (2)
Responsibilities
Assist with the record keeping and the organization of the orchestra’s vast music library
Enter new music into the Charms database
Commit to one hour a week to work on the library
Qualifications
Good organizational skills
One year in Orchestra (6th, 7th or 8th Grade)
Birthday Brigade Sergeant (4)
Responsibilities
Keep a calendar of faculty and staff birthdates
Send directors a weekly update to the birthday ppt slide
Assist with security and charging of devices
Qualifications
Be able to cue an ensemble without counting
Play Happy Birthday by memory
Good calendar skills
Good public relations skills
Tech Support (10 – one per class)
Responsibilities
Will pass out and check in class technology when in use
Assist and troubleshoot other classmates when using technology
Assist with security and charging of devices
Qualifications
6th, 7th, or 8th Grade – one per ensemble
Good organizational skills
Ability to learn new tricks with technology
Film and Stage Crew Members
Responsibilities
Stage set up and tear down of all concerts happening on campus
Create and follow a calendar for concert date attendance. Two members per concert, 4 for the Spring Concert.
Learning how to operate the material and technology that is on the stage
Managing recording technology for each performance
Qualifications
6th, 7th, or 8th Grade
Good organizational skills
Ability to work with others
String Leaders
The Fort Settlement Orchestra String Leader Course is a selective student leadership position that exists to serve the Orchestra program through musical talent, willingness and ability to help others, and the commitment to always go above and beyond. Students that are selected to be String Leaders will serve their role during the beginning orchestra class of their instrument, while remaining in their performing ensemble.
POPSelect (Peer Oriented Practice Sessions - Select)
POPS matches two students together (less experienced with more experienced) for at least 20 minutes to work through feedback and repetitions that will enhance both students’ practice effectiveness. Other students may be selected for or apply to POPSelect, an elite program, where students are assigned consistent coaching partnerships that meet at least once per week for 20-30 minutes to work on topics, skills, and consistency of performance that the student needs to improve.
