Welcome parents and students! I am beginning my 8th year at Fort Settlement, and this year I am again teaching 8th Grade ELA & 8th Literacy. I have taught 8th grade ELA for 5 1/2 years at The Fort, and I have taught 6th & 7th Grade ELA for 7 1/2 years at The Fort and other FBISD campuses. This year we will work hard to prepare students for high school as well as continue building on the attributes of FBISD's Profile of a Graduate.
I also serve with Ms. Michelle Liaw as a co-advisor to the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS). NJHS is a service organization for 8th grade students who have demonstrated the five pillars of NJHS during their middle school years: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Citizenship, and Character. Students are invited to apply for membership during the spring of their 7th grade year.
Before I began my teaching career, I held various positions in the oil and gas industry and real estate. I graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and later received a Master's Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from The University of Houston - Victoria. I have two grown daughters who are now entering the work force in the Houston area as they finish college. I have also lived in Fort Bend County now for over 25 years.
My teaching philosophy: I believe all students can learn and succeed when equipped with the right resources, a supportive learning community, and a teacher who believes in their success. I look forward to another great year at The Fort!
