Ms. K. Smith
Starting the 2021-2022 school year, I have been a high school educator for 20 years with 10 of those years being at Austin High School. I teach Professional Communications under the Career, Technology, & Engineering Department (CTE). I have also taught Yearbook Journalism and Debate. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Communications with a minor in Sociology.
The Professional Communications curriculum includes (but is not limited to) hands-on skills such as professional and social communication abilities, language skills, interview skills, career exploaration, teamwork, and leadership (all of which are soft skills that employers look for). Students in this course are required to participate in Mock Interviews, and "Dress For Success" Day.
I am passionate about sharing my knowledge and experience in the area of these essential skills and look forward to facilitating the needs of our students as they transition into the work-place!
“Although this course is an elective, it is one of the few classes that every single student will need and use regardless of their career path in life!”
