Mr. Jeffrey Rico
Mr. Jeffrey Rico is the Head Choir Director at Ronald Thornton Middle School. This is his second year at FBISD and Ronald Thornton Middle School. He strives for constant collaboration with the directors at Baines Middle School, Crawford High School, and Ridge Point High School to ensure the Sienna Choir students have an impactful musical, educational, and community experience throughout their seven years.
Mr. Rico believes that music is a powerful tool that brings people together and creates a community. Through music, students learn more about themselves and can grow both as a musician, and as a person.
Mr. Rico is a product of NEISD in San Antonio, Texas and its wonderful choir programs. He graduated from Claudia Taylor Johnson High School under the direction of Mrs. Christie Brown and Ms. Ashley Hester and attended Encino Park Elementary and Tejeda Middle School. He began his choral journey at Tejeda under the direction of Ms. Amy Oxley. Through the guidance of Ms. Oxley, Mrs. Brown, and Ms. Hester, Mr. Rico was inspired to become a choir director. Mr. Rico continued his education at Texas State University and earned a Bachelor of Music Education with a K-12 Music Certification and graduated Summa Cum Laude. Throughout his time at the Texas State University School of Music, he performed with the Men's Choir, University Singers, and Chorale. His teacher influences include Ms. Amy Oxley, Mrs. Christie Brown, Ms. Ashley Hester, Ms. Lynn Brinckmeyer, Ms. Jo Scurlock-Dillard, Mr. Mario Contreras, and Mr. David Short.
When he is not teaching or practicing his singing, he enjoys cooking, eating, playing video games, listening to choral music, spending time with his musical colleagues, watching E-Sports, and serving the Greater Houston community.
