Kirlew Matthie

I am privileged to be with your children at LOMS because I know clearly who they are. They are the future trustees of our communities and of our nation. I believe in them and I know that my positive view of them will make all the difference in how they view themselves and how they meet our expectations, academic, social and lifelong challenges. I know that they will be equipped to embrace a bright, happy and healthy future.
I have been teaching Science at Lake Olympia for twenty years. Currently, I teach Seventh Grade Science. In addition to teaching science, I have served on the Academic Advisory Council as Area 2 science curriculum representative for eight years. I represented LOMS on the District Assessment writing committee.  I served as mentor to new teachers at our school and also worked with students in the Teacher as Mentor program here at LOMS.

During my first three years at LOMS, I was the campus coordinator for the Voyager University after-School Program.

Previously, I taught for Galveston ISD where I served as the Department Head for the Science Department, Director of after-School Programs, Campus Health Fair Coordinator and Chairperson for the Discipline Committee.

Prior to coming to Texas, I taught AP Chemistry, Biology, Earth Science and Physics at Aurora Gateway High School and Algebra at North High School in Colorado.

In Texas, I am certified in the following areas: Secondary Science Composite, Health Sciences, and Gifted and Talented Education. I also hold advanced degree in Leadership Administration and Policy Studies with Principal Certification.

As an active member of Kappa Delta Pi honor society in education, I am always striving for betterment and quality in educational leadership and best teaching practices. I am actively involved in promoting girls to consider careers in Math, Science and Engineering. As such, I am a past President of American Association of University Women Greater Houston Interbranch Council. This is an organization that promotes education and encourages students to make career choices in Math, Science and Engineering.

I am looking forward to a productive year filled with adventure, success, and parent- teacher collaborative efforts geared for the success of your child. I am committed to finding the good in every child. They are our future. We owe it to them and ourselves to foster a world of value creation, educational success and world peace. Why, because I believe in our LEAD philosophy, the growth and success of students beyond all imaginations.
