Degrees and Certifications:
Bachelor's of Arts, Music Education
Mr. Corey Braxton
Mr. Braxton went to Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kansas to earn a Bachelor of Music Education degree in 2008.
Once graduating from KWU, he returned to his hometown of Lyons, Kansas in 2009 to teach 6-12 vocal music for 10 years. He was inspired and excited to give back to the community that helped raise him.
He then took a break from teaching and went back to school full-time for his Master's in Music Education from Missouri State University.
While at Missouri State University, he studied voice with Dr. Todd Payne and performed in the MSU Chorale under the direction of Dr. Cameron LaBarr. Mr. Braxton was the graduate assistant for the music education department and served as a mentor to future music educators attending MSU.
In 2021, his musical journey led him to teach choir at Clear Lake High School and Clear Lake Intermediate in Clear Creek ISD. While teaching at both campuses, he loved building new relationships and molding the next generation of musicians for the Houston, TX area. Mr. Braxton taught the Tenor/Bass Choir at CLHS and all choirs at CLI. His choirs received numerous sweepstakes at UIL during his time there.
Mr. Braxton is eager to join Kelsey Appleby at Garcia Middle School as the assistant choir director. The program has grown enough to have two directors, and he looks forward to changing the world through song.
