Secondary Spanish Education International Studies

Ms. Shawnne Welch

!Hola! I am the new Spanish teacher this year.  I have six years of experience working with high school and middle school students.  I am new to Garcia Middle School and am excited to be a part of the Gator community.  I fell in love with Spanish when I was a little girl living next door to Ecuadorians. As I went through high school, I knew I wanted to pursue the Spanish language.

I attended Evangel University and majored in Spanish Education with a minor in International Studies. I studied abroad my senior year and lived in Barcelona, Spain for six months and then in Rota, Spain for another three months. During my early years of teaching, I finished 18 credits towards a master's degree in Spanish Literature. I'm hoping to finish my degree in the next few years.

I am not a native speaker but am definitely proficient in the language. I love the language, the culture, the people, the food .... and I love sharing it with others. Because I am not a native speaker, I feel I have an advantage because I know where my students are. I sat in their seats once and struggled to gain proficiency just like they will. I know what needs to be focused on, I can empathize with their difficulties, and I will have insight in their language acquisition. We are in this together!

I will forever be a language learner, so I am so excited to share my journey with your children.
