About the STAAR Test
All public school students in Texas, grades 3–12, take STAAR (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness) tests. STAAR is the state’s testing program based on Texas curriculum standards in core subjects, including reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies. STAAR Tests are taken online with students' school-issued laptops.
Grades 3–8 STAAR tests are given in the spring, while End-of-Course (EOC) assessments for high school are given throughout the year.

Purpose
STAAR tests are designed to measure what students have learned in each grade and determine if they are prepared for the next grade level. The goal is to ensure that all students receive the support they need to be academically successful. Meeting these needs depends on schools, parents, and the community working together.
