• TELPAS, or the Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System, is an assessment program designed to measure the English language proficiency of students who are English learners (ELs) in Texas public schools. Administered annually, TELPAS assesses students in grades K-12 in four language domains: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. The goal is to ensure that EL students are making progress in learning English and can participate effectively in the academic environment.

    Key Features of TELPAS:

    • Listening and Speaking: Assesses students' abilities to understand spoken English and express themselves clearly.
    • Reading: Measures how well students can comprehend written English.
    • Writing: Evaluates students' ability to produce written English in various contexts.

    Purpose:

    • To help schools, teachers, and parents understand a student's current level of English proficiency.
    • To guide instruction and provide the necessary support for English language learners.
    • To comply with federal and state requirements for monitoring the progress of EL students.

TELPAS is an essential tool that helps educators support English learners on their path to academic success in an English-speaking environment.
