• Art I

    Prerequisites: none

    Students may take this course in grades 6-8. This course enables students to develop their problem-solving and creative-thinking skills. Participants will develop perceptual skills as they perceive the world around them, interpret emotion through a variety of artistic media, and evaluate their own art work as well as the work of other artists.  Young artists will develop a broad knowledge and skills at this level.

    Art II

    Prerequisites: Art I

    This course is offered for 7th and 8th grade students with one year of experience.  Students will explore the basic elements of art and principles of design while using a variety of media and techniques. The course will focus on the development of technical skills while developing creative mindsets.  Art appreciation and art history are incorporated into the course.  Students will have the opportunity to participate in several important art contests and exhibitions.

    Art III

    Prerequisites: Art II, Art I

    This course is offered to students that have already taken two years of middle school art.  The focus of this program is to prepare students for artist exhibitions and contests.  Students should have a strong motivation in creating personal artwork.  Students will develop more advanced techniques using a variety of media and techniques. Originality of work and creativity are stressed. Art appreciation and art history are basic to the course. Students prepare a portfolio from the course to submit to high school for consideration for the Drawing II course as freshmen.
