Ms. Secord
Ms. Secord's educational career began in 2010 with Teach for America where she taught 4th grade math at a brand new Title 1 charter school in Kansas City. During Ms. Secord's first year teaching all of her passed the state MAP assessment (and 56.4% scoring proficient or advanced). Her 60 students grew an average of 2.7 years (2 years and 7 months) in just 1 school year, scored higher than the averages of all students in Kansas City Missouri Public School District, greater than the averages of all students on the 4th grade math assessment throughout the entire state of Missouri and first place in the charter network among all other fourth grade students! She learned that truly all students can and will reach their greatest potential with the right individualized and personal supports.
Following her service as a corpsmember with Teach For America, Ms. Secord was recuited by Harvard University's Apollo Program to one of Houston Independent School District's lowest performing elementary schools. She taught all subjects in a self contained classroom while simultaneously serving as the school's Data Analyst and Specialist. Using student data, she transferred her passion for growth in her own classroom to teachers school wide who attained the same levels of success and growth among their students.
Ms. Secord later taught in Katy ISD and then tutored online to students scoring near-perfect scores on the ACT and SAT while traveling worldwide. To date, she has been to 55 countries and counting. After some time off, Ms. Secord returned to the classroom at the best middle school in all of Texas (Sartartia) where she continues her passion for helping students achieve their personal best as an English Language Arts (ELA) and Special Education teacher.
Ms. Secord holds degrees from Cornell College and University of Missouri. Outside of school, she can be found spending time with her two year old daughter, Saffron, reading, organizing all things, drinking coffee, playing board games, cycling, hiking, or traveling.
