I am a lifelong artist and third year art teacher. I will be teaching Art 1 for 7th and 8th grade as well as Art 2. I have a bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Texas in Austin. I also took art education classes for 3 years at Texas State University in San Marcos before getting my teaching certification in K-12 art education. While at Texas State, I worked for two years at a wonderful nonprofit community art program called Art Space where I taught art classes for all ages, led a Scratch coding class for 2 summers, and co-directed a STEAM camp for 11-14 year olds.
I have been the sponsor of JBMS's Art Club since last year. You can find that club page here: Art Club
I am constantly creating art in my spare time--filling up sketchbooks with drawings and trying new mediums. I am very passionate about watching movies. My favorites are Studio Ghibli, Wes Anderson, the Spiderverse series, and stop-motion animation like Coraline.
My middle school experience was tough, as I dealt with wearing a back brace for scoliosis. It felt like art was the one time of the day when I could just breathe and be myself. It felt like a safe space. That's what I want for my students. I hope to create a peaceful, creative, positive space for students to create art.
I have a website with my biography, student artwork, and my own artwork. It can be found at picouarteducation.com
I also infrequently update a teacher Instagram account, which can be found here:
