Mr. James M. Cotten

Coach Cotten has been teaching English and coaching football, tennis, and baseball at the high school level in Marshall, Texas for the last seven years. He has also served over 30 years in church ministry across the state of Texas, most of it working with teenagers. During his time in Marshall, he developed an outreach program where individuals could connect with their community to help meet the needs of everyone and allow people to learn to become servant leaders.

James Cotten grew up in Midland, Texas, where he played football, basketball, and ran track for the Midland High Bulldogs. He and his wife, Cheri, have been married for 30 years. She is a 4th grade Science/Math teacher at Neil Elementary just down the street from Bowie. Together, they have 3 children: Taylor, Raegan, and Garrett. Taylor teaches Kindergarten at Neil Elementary, is married to her husband, also named Taylor, and they have three children. Raegan is an Emergency Room nurse and is getting married in October of this year. Garrett is a junior at East Texas Baptist University where he is studying to become an Athletic Trainer.

Coach Cotten loves to travel and has been to every continent except for Australia and Antarctica on church mission trips and/or vacations. Passionate about the Chicago Cubs, he and Cheri hope to watch a game at every Major League Baseball Park. One of Coach's greatest loves is being a Bop(Grandpa).

Academically, Cotten loves teaching English and especially the opportunity to focus on writing. He is passionate about instilling discipline in the lives of teenagers through hard work and determination. Amped is his word of choice as he looks toward the time he will devote to developing relationships with new students at James Bowie Middle School. Together we are empowering each student to be independent, growth minded, servant leaders who will go on to impact their community and world.
