• The James Bowie Theatre Company strives to help members discover their passion for theatre. We have over 200 students who sign up for Theatre, over 50 students yearly who participate in our annual musical and 30+ students in our Thespian Honors Society. We always schedule a busy season every year and this being Mr.Ybarra's third year as the Head Director. The expectations this school year will be through the roof.

Our company's motto is Fail Forward, it is our belief that in order to achieve a goal, learn a new skill or become better at something. You must learn from your mistakes. Our company believes that everyone has a place in the theatre. It could be tech, backstage, lights, sound, acting or playwriting. That is the special part about the James Bowie Theatre Company or Theatre in general. So many things make up this special form of art that all sorts of learner can find their place.

The courses that make up our program is as follows.

Theatre Arts 1 (Beginniers) - Sixth Grade and Theatre Arts 1 Seventh and Eighth Grade (Beginniers)

This course is aimed at teaching students all the basics and fundamentals of Theatre. Students are introduced to a variety of speaking situations and a basic understanding of the theatre. Students learn theatre preparation techniques, discover ways to communicate nonverbally, and enhance control of their voice and body. Students study a range of theatrical content and have opportunities to perform in class and in stage productions. This class does have performance requirements with dates being given at the beginning of the year. This is a general course, so while I understand numerous students may want to focus on tech, that class is an upper level course and must be taken by students who have had a general understanding of both backstage and on stage work.

Theatre Arts II (Intermediate) -  seventh and eighth grade

This course dives deep into the world of Theatre by branching into the history and performing styles of Theatre. We will cover the history of Theatre, Musical Theatre, auditioning, script analysis, playwriting, examination of different types of theatre and lessons in acting. This class also includes a performance and also a production review where students are required to attend a James Bowie Theatre Company production and provide a critic.

Theatre Arts Production (Varsity) - eighth grade (audition only) -  This course is designed to give the students enrolled an opportunity to put into practice basic skills learned in Theatre Arts I and II. Students will select, audition, cast, and produce a production. Students will be responsible for all production elements of this course and will produce performances as the end result.
