Accomplishments: (23-24)
Houston Rodeo Art:
In 2023, we had 20 students enter into the Houston Rodeo Art contest. 6 of those students were Ms. Picou's students. The first step of that contest is district wide--the district chooses the best pieces to move onto the actual Houston Rodeo Art contest. Unfortunately, none of our pieces were chosen, but students still had great success in their artworks (see below).
Houston Rodeo Art Quick Draw:
In Fall of 2023, I helped one of my students, Nihal Kochoth, apply for the Houston Rodeo Art Quick Draw contest. The competition is based around the ability to draw quickly and accurately, skills that I noticed Nihal had practiced a lot over the years. He applied and was one of 25 students in the Houston area to be chosen to compete. The competition was in January of 2024 at the NRG stadium. Students had 50 minutes to complete a still life drawing as quickly and accurately as possible. Nihal won 1st place champion of the middle school division of the competition, along with $500. You can see pictures of that win below:

After such a great accomplishment, the Fort Bend ISD board decided to recognize Nihal's Quick Draw win at a FBISD board meeting later that year, along with all the other FBISD winners of the Houston Rodeo Art contest. It was a great honor for Nihal, his parents, Ms. Picou, and our principal, Mr. Yelvington.
Jr. VASE (Visual Art Scholastic Event):
Several students from JBMS also attended Jr. VASE in the Spring of 2024. This included 3 students from Ms. Picou's classes and all of the students in Art Club. Below are some pictures from that event. There was great success in the artwork and interviews conducted by the judges. Many students recieved 3s or 4s (out of 4 points).
