This is the advanced level of Art, which each student must take before progressing on to Art 3 in middle school.
Art 2 focuses on a broad range of technical skills, showing students a variety of art forms such as design, sculpture construction, drawing, painting, grid-drawing, figure drawing, and more. It also teaches cross-discipline skills such as ingenuity, creativity, collaboration, research, and brainstorming. Students learn art history through their warm ups and each art project.
Art 2 follows the middle school art TEKS closely, which focuses on the elements of art, principles of design, drawing, painting, 3D sculpture, digital art, and multimedia.
Typical Day in the Art Room:
- Warm up (5-10 minutes)
- Ms. Picou's daily announcements (5 minutes)
- Supplies Distribution (5 minutes)
- Work time and/or Lesson (most of class time)
- Clean up (last 5-10 minutes)
Supplies:
There will be an updated supplies list linked on this website and sent home with each student soon.
Every year, JBMS art classes require each student to contribute to art dues. Each student who pays their art dues will receive a JBMS Art shirt. The art dues will also go toward art supplies and art contest entry fees. You may pay online only this year (on Revtrack--for more information, check for Schoology updates). Check Schoology for the deadline for art dues.
Each student is required to bring a sketchbook. The sketchbook needs to be at least 8.5 x 11 inches with blank paper. I reccomend Michael's Artist's Loft hardbound sketchbook for $10 (see photo on Supplies List).
In case of financial hardship, you may contact me privately and the JBMS art department will provide the supplies that you need. You will also be exempt from dues. A PARENT must contact Ms. Picou by email.
Donating Supplies:
Ms. Picou welcomes parents/guardians to donate supplies at any time throughout the year. There will be emails or updates on Schoology calling for certain materials as we work through projects. However, if you have a large donation, you may contact me to set up a time for you to drop it off so that your student doesn't have to carry it around all day.
Throughout the year, we will be working with the following materials and would be very grateful for any donations:
- yarn
- string
- twine
- magazines (school appropriate)
- construction paper
- patterned paper (like scrapbook paper)
- cardboard
- thin cardboard (like cereal boxes)
- newspaper
- sidewalk chalk
- paint (acrylic, tempera, watercolor)
- canvases
- masking tape
- glue
Grading:
- Daily Grades: Warm ups (weekly), worksheets, project check-ins
- Test Grades: Major Projects, Written Reflections
- There are no late points taken off. However, once the grading period ends, Ms. Picou will be unable to change your grade. If Ms. Picou has nothing to grade, you will receive a zero until something is turned in.
- If your name is not on your project, you will receive a zero until you claim your work.
- How assignments are graded: Most assignments will have Success Criteria with clearly laid out points in your score. Grades are based on your effort, not your art skills. If you are unable to draw well or struggle with a medium, you will not be penalized.
