Whether students apply with ApplyTexas, Common App, the Coalition App or something else, they will probably need to prepare one or more essays to include with their application. While many schools have additional essay requirements, ApplyTexas and Common App have their own essay prompts that students will respond to and will be included in their applications. While the essay prompts occasionally change slightly, they are relatively consistent year to year. 

Students are encouraged to start writing their essay during spring of their junior year. The essay is a very important part of the application process, especially now that many schools are using holistic review to make their admissions decisions. The essay is the student's opportunity to let the admissions committee know who they are and how they feel inside. Academic prowess is demonstrated through transcripts and test scores, but the essay is where the student's inner thoughts and feelings really shine.
