The Texas Application for State Financial Aid is for students who are not eligible for the FAFSA but have resided in Texas for at least three years prior to entering college. This aid is only available for students attending Texas schools and includes, but is not limited to, foreign nationals, legal permanent residents, and eligible non-citizens. You can only apply for either FAFSA or TASFA, but not both.
Should I complete the TASFA? Students who are classified by the institution as a Texas Resident who cannot apply for federal financial aid, using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), are encouraged to complete the TASFA. Still not sure? Click here to get some help deciding.
When can I complete the TASFA? The 2025-26 TASFA will open on December 1, 2024.

I've finished it. Now what do I do? Once you've completed your TAFSA, you'll need to submit verification that it was completed to SchooLinks. This is the ONLY way that your graduation requirement will be satisfied. You will need a screen shot of your TAFSA screen or of your paper TAFSA form. You will upload this in SchooLinks; please click here for specific instructions.
In addition, if you completed a paper form, you will need to mail your application and forms to the college/university that you will be attending. Also plan to send copies of your W-2, your 2023 tax return, your selective service card (males only) and your notarized and signed affidavit of intent. Contact your college's financial aid office for specific submission instructions. If you completed an online TASFA, you do not need to do this step.
I still have questions! Please visit the Everything You Need to Know About the TASFA website for complete information.
