Beginning Orchestra is for students who would like to start playing one of the 4 orchestra instruments offered. These instruments include Bass, Cello, Viola, and Violin. You do not have to have any previous musical or instrumental experience to be in the SLMS Orchestra. In this class we will show you how to hold and care for a stringed instrument, how to hold the bow, how to read music, and most importantly we will show you all the skills you need to play in an ensemble

 

 

Beginning Orchestra students meet every day as part of their schedule and will be placed in one of three different beginner classes offered  throughout the day at SLMS. Students in this group participate in the FBISD annual String Fling, UIL Solo Contest, as well as various school Concerts throughout the year. Students at all grade levels are encouraged to join the orchestra. You do not have to be a 6th grader to beginning playing an instrument, we have many students who start orchestra in 7th and 8th grade.
