A Message from the Principal

Dear Sugar Land Middle School Parents and Community,
It brings me great pleasure to welcome you to Sugar Land Middle School, home of the Titans! Our school is in its 46th year of serving the community and preparing young people for futures beyond what they can imagine. In this regard Sugar Land MS continues to be a cornerstone of learning for the community. One of our points of pride is that our campus reflects in almost every way the diversity that is Fort Bend County and the City of Sugar Land, as well as the world itself. To that end we strive to maintain an inclusive and engaged community of learners--children and adults--which is focused on bringing out the best in everyone academically, emotionally, and socially. Our academics, athletics, and arts programs continue to produce excellent results thanks to the commitment of our staff, students, parents, and the community.
We will be relentlessly focused on building school pride and on individual growth--academic, social, and emotional--for all students, as well as our staff. Adding value to each person on a daily basis is a foundational principle at SLMS. A continuing area of growth for us as a campus is that of cultivating a deep and thriving parent/school partnership that empowers our young people through a supportive and collaborative relationship. I challenge all parents and guardians to engage with our school, to volunteer during the school day with our VIPS program (Volunteers in Public Schools), assist with planning for and/or participating as a guest speaker for our Virtual Career Day, join and then volunteer for a committee with our SLMS PTO, attend monthly the monthly Coffee with the Principal, Mid-Day Breaks with the Counselors, volunteering for our Campus Planning and Advisory Committee (CPAC), and continuing this year, engage and collaborate with teachers and your children through Schoology, our FBISD's online learning management system.
On a personal note, the 2021-22 school year will be my 6th year as principal at SLMS, my 26th year in Fort Bend ISD, and my 31st year in education overall. I have had the pleasure of serving at a variety of FBISD campuses prior to coming to SLMS in 2016 - Willowridge HS, Baines MS, Lake Olympia MS, and Quail Valley MS. Sugar Land MS is a great place to learn and to work, and I am proud to be its principal.
I am excited about this school year and the diffierence it will make for our students, staff, and our community. I look forward to seeing you around campus!
    Yours in service,
    Keith Fickel, Principal
    Sugar Land Middle School
