I am Ms. Blackmon and I am happy to be a Hodges Bend Middle School Counselor! This year I will have the pleasure of serving 6th grade students, and I am excited about assisting my students with their transition from Elementary School. The 2024-2025 school year will be my 11th year in FBISD. I previously taught Kindergarten and 4th grade, and I have had opportunities to work with students PK-12th across various academic settings. I studied at Houston Christian University to obtain a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education and continued my studies at Lamar University to earn a Master’s in School Counseling. When I am not at school, I enjoy hobbies such as spending time with family and friends, watching and attending sports events, and trying new restaurants. My favorite NBA teams include the LA Lakers and the Golden State Warriors, and I enjoy eating at seafood restaurants. A few of my roles at HBMS include, co-facilitating school wide Social Emotional Learning (SEL) activities through the Counseling Advisory Committee, engaging in small group counseling, working with Gifted and Talented (GT students), as well as engaging in academic and SEL guidance to my grade level of students. When working with students, I strive to encourage creativity and higher-order thinking to nurture individual growth. I am excited that I will have the privilege of working with this group of students through the entirety of their middle school experience. I look forward to an awesome year!
