In 1993, I graduated from Devine High School and received an athletic scholarship to the University of Houston. Attending University of Houston allowed me to get a great education and travel across the country. One of my professors told me I needed to be a teacher because of my creative lesson I taught to the class. I responded to him, “I am going after my goal in professional sports.” After UH, I became the Director of Equipment Operations for the Houston Rockets Organization/ Houston ThunderBears of Arena Football League. I eventually decided that I needed to give back to the community and became a Program Director at the YMCA of Greater Houston. After Hurricane Ike, I finally decided to become a teacher sitting at Little Round Top in the Gettysburg Battlefield. I realize that through all my experiences that I could make a bigger impact teaching and take up my professor's advice which he gave 16 years earlier.
