Dr. Jahan

Education has always been a deeply held value in my family, where being an educator is considered the most honorable profession. I hold a Bachelor's and an MBA from Pakistan and began my teaching career in 1992 at Beaconhouse School Systems. After moving to the United States in 2000, I started teaching math in Houston ISD and soon transitioned to technology instruction, driven by my passion for STEM education. This passion led me to earn a Master’s in Educational Technology and a Doctorate in STEM Education from Lamar University. After I completed my doctorate, I needed some change, so I took up a job teaching high school science in London, which gave me an opportunity to travel to some European countries.

Over the years, I have taught a wide range of subjects across all K–12 grade levels, including high school Science, and Engineering. I have focused on teaching Computer Science and other technology subjects for the past 10 years. I have sponsored both robotics and 3D printing clubs and have experience building and troubleshooting 3D printers.

Over the summer, I joined the AI Middle School Hub, a UT Austin initiative in collaboration with Georgia and Florida public school teachers, to advance AI education. This year at Baines and Garcia Middle School, I am excited to offer Computer Science as a high school credit course. My goal is to introduce students to AI, its real-world implications, and ethical considerations, while creating an engaging classroom experience through physical computing. I also actively encourage female students to enroll in computer science, fostering inclusivity and early exposure to STEM fields.

When not in school, I can be found in my garden. My love for plants, animals, and nature led me to make a backyard orchard.
