• Safety patrol is an opportunity for students to practice leadership skills. They serve as role models for younger students and their peers. Because of this responsibility safety patrol is reserved for fifth graders only. Safety patrol members will be selected based upon teacher recommendations, behavior at school, and grades.

All safety patrol members must meet the following behavior and academic guidelines prior to being selected and throughout their participation in safety patrol:

      • All behavior marks on their report card are above a “U” (including Outclass).
      • All grades are at a 70 or higher on their report card and progress report.
      • Teacher recommendation every nine weeks.
      • No office referrals.

Students not meeting the guidelines on their report cards or progress reports during their fifth-grade year will be placed on probation. If their grades improve, they will be put back on the schedule, per teacher recommendation. Any office referrals or behavior reports may jeopardize their job assignment.

Safety patrol requires students to spend additional time at school for their job.  Morning patrol students are required to be at school by 7:30 a.m. They patrol students entering the building in the morning from 7:30-8:00 a.m. Afternoon patrol requires students to leave class at 3:20 p.m. They patrol afternoon dismissal until 3:50 p.m. Afternoon patrol students must be picked up by 3:50 p.m. or he or she may lose the ability to participate in afternoon patrol. All safety patrol students may be picked up at the front of the school at 3:50 p.m.  Safety patrol is a job, and your student must treat it as one. While on the job, safety patrol students are expected to uphold all their duties at their post and act responsibly and safely.
