Mr. Chen graduated from the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music with a Bachelor of Music Education. He was a member of the Spirit of Houston Marching Band for five years and the Moores School of Music Wind Ensemble under the direction of David Bertman. As a Moores School of Music Ambassador throughout his academic career, Mr. Chen helped with the recruitment and audition process of the music school. He served as the president of the Beta Sigma Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi, National Honorary Band Service Fraternity. Previous teaching experience include being a marching technician for the Friendswood High School Marching Band and privately as a lessons and master class teacher at Crosby High School. Mr. Chen is a former marching member of The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps from 2013-2016 and was a Drum Major for his final year. He was also the concert Euphonium soloist in the 2014 and 2016. He later served on the instructional music staff as a low brass technician until 2023. 

Mr. Chen is a proud product of Fort Bend ISD having graduated from Kempner High School. He was happy to return to the district in 2017 as the Assistant Band Director at Elkins High School where he was also selected as one of the District Secondary Rookie Teachers of the Year. He later earned his masters in Educational Administration from Lamar University in 2021 and is currently the Head Band Director at Elkins High School.
