Welcome Tigers!

I am very excited about returning to CME this fall, teaching 3rd Grade!

My name is Michael Matherne, and I am from Sugar Land, Texas. I graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a Master of Educational Leadership and from the University of Houston with a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism. I have been with Fort Bend I.S.D. for 10 years. I am currently in my eighth year of teaching, seven of which, I've been proud to be a Tiger! At CME, I have taught Kindergarten, First Grade and this upcoming school year, returning as the Third Grade Self-Contained Teacher. Prior to CME, I was the Ancillary/ STEM teacher at Ridgemont Early Childhood Center.

In my classroom, I believe in fostering a healthy and positive environment that allows each student to feel safe and comfortable, which empowers them to learn, grow and explore new and exciting things.  

Outside of school, you may find me grabbing a bite at Los Tios, spending time with my dogs or on the golf course! 

I am looking forward to an amazing 2024-2025 school year, Tigers!
