Hello!  My name is Derrick Black and I am the general music specialist at Drabek Elementary. My goal is to share the joy of music with your child and provide them with a foundation for lifelong music appreciation!  I will see each student in Kinder-5th grades at least once every five days for 45 minutes. I will see each PreK class for 40 minutes once every five days. Our time together will include a variety of musical experiences such as singing, dancing, playing instruments, listening to various musical styles, and creating music of their own.

 

All classes will work together to create a respect agreement at the beginning of the school year in my music room (also known as “The Tone Zone”).  I have high expectations for all of my students and they will receive two grades on their report card from me each nine weeks (one content grade and one conduct grade). 

 

All fifth grade students will also have the opportunity to expand their music experience by learning how to play the recorder wind instrument.
