Ms. Barela is a SAILS Functional Academic teacher at Rita Drabek Elementary. She currently teaches Functional Math, Making Connections and Employee Skills. This is her fourteenth-year working for Fort Bend ISD, Special Education. She has been working with adults and children with autism and other special needs since 2000. In May 2010, she graduated from University of Houston-Victoria with a B.S. in Legal Assisting. In addition to her Teaching Certification, Ms. Barela has a specialization in Special Education. While finishing her certificate in education, she worked in FBISD as a Paraeducator. When given the opportunity and time to succeed, she believes that every student can grow and meet challenges. Ms. Barela is a firm believer in creating lessons that are engaging and promote the building of practical real-world skills. She knows that every child differs and considers their diverse needs and abilities when providing instruction. She promises her students and their families to model and support daily success, share her enthusiasm for learning and seek opportunities inside and outside the classroom that will help ensure student knowledge and a love for learning.
