Special Education

  • The Fort Bend Independent School District (FBISD) provides educational opportunities to all students.  Included in those opportunities are special education services for students identified with specific learning needs.

At Rita Drabek Elementary School, we strive to provide parents and students with programs and services that will promote student success and achievement. We offer a continuum of services and placement options for students with disabilities in order to meet their individual needs. This includes programs such as Mainstream, Co-teaching, Resource, and Self-Contained.  Below is a brief description explaining the instructional arrangement of each program:

Mainstream: Services are provided in the general education setting which may include in-class support, accommodations and modifications.

Co-Teach:  Collaborative instructional teaching by general education and special education teachers within the general education classroom setting.

Resource: Instruction is provided in a setting other than the general education classroom.

Succeeding in Academic and Independent Living Skills (SAILS):  This program is consisting of students with significant cognitive disabilities who require an educational program focusing on life skills such as personal care, pre-vocational activities, communication, functional academics and/or social skills.

Academic, Behavior, and Communication (ABC):  Designed for students who exhibit a combination of severe cognitive and behavioral challenges.

Functional Living and School Health Services (FLaSH):  Provides a developmentally appropriate program for students from five -22 years of age who exhibit significant, profound cognitive and communication impairments and/or multiple impairments.

Speech Therapy:  Provided to students who have a speech impairment.  Students who only receive speech therapy are not eligible to be counted for any other instructional arrangement.
