Third Grade Team

  • Welcome to the Third Grade!

We have a block schedule in third grade. This means that your child will have one teacher for math and science, and then switch classes to meet with their reading, language arts and social studies teacher.

In 3rd grade, your child will learn important new ideas and gain important new skills. One of the most important topics this year is multiplication and division. Another is fractions. Multiplication, division, and fractions are the building blocks for many life skills that students will learn in later grades, such as percentages. Students also need to master these topics to be ready for algebra and advanced math, so it is essential to get a good start with these topics in 3rd grade.

Reading continues to be a priority in third grade. Students will read a variety of literature. They will apply the foundational skills learned in earlier grades to decode and comprehend text. These strategies will be applied to all subjects. The third grader will use effective communication skills and will present information orally. Students will also plan, draft, revise, and edit their writing. In addition, the students will gather and use information from print and non-print sources.

We are excited for the learning that will take place this year! Third grade is a year full of new and exciting experiences. It is our goal that as students grow and mature, they would also gain a stronger sense of responsibility and independence.  We are looking forward to working together with parents to help our students reach their goals.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s teacher by email or phone. We appreciate your partnership on this journey.

    Thank you!
