Application, Selection, and Hiring Process
Qualifications
- The minimum requirement for subbing with Fort Bend ISD is 60+ earned college hours
Applying
- Complete an application online.
- Include phone numbers and email addresses for two (2) supervisor references. Your references must be individuals who have supervised or managed your work in current or past positions.
- Upload your official transcripts and/or valid Texas Teacher Certification(s)
- If you earned your degree in another country, you are required to upload the TEA-approved U.S. evaluation of your foreign transcript.
- Check your email for your 'Application Received' confirmation email.
Screening Process
- If any of the above information is missing from your application, you will receive an email detailing the required update. You must respond to the email confirming that the necessary updates have been completed.
- Reference requests will be sent to the supervisors listed on your application during the screening process. Please note that you will not receive further information regarding the interview process until responses have been received from your listed references and the information meets the district’s criteria.
- Incomplete applications will delay the hiring process.
Applications are screened on a weekly basis. For example, if you applied on August 3rd, your application will be screened the week of August 10th.
Interview
Candidates are required to interview for the Substitute position. If you are a FBISD retiree who has retired within the past three years, you are exempt from the interview process.
- Once your application is considered complete, and we have received responses from your listed references, you will receive and email regarding the Interview process.
- We will review the responses from your supervisory references. Please note that we do not accept references from co-workers, friends, family members, or individuals listed as “other.” The hiring process will NOT continue until we have received the required references, and they meet the district criteria.
- Interviews are completed through an asynchronous format.
Hiring Process
- After your interview has been reviewed, you will receive an email indicating whether you have been recommended for hire.
- Background history will be reviewed. If fingerprinting is required, you will receive an email with further instructions
- Once the hiring process begins, you will receive an email outlining the next steps
- Incomplete applications may delay the hiring process
Work Requirements
- During the school year you are required to work 2 times per month or 10 times per semester.
Onboarding and New Substitute Orientation (NSO)
- After accepting your offer and completing the online new hire forms, you will be invited to attend Substitute Onboarding.
- You will be contacted via email with your Onboarding date and additional information.
- During Onboarding, you will receive your substitute badge.
- Before you begin substituting, you are required to attend Onboarding and complete the online New Substitute Orientation. You will receive additional information as the hiring process progresses.
Note:
- Substitute Onboarding sessions are held twice per month.
- We hire in large groups; therefore, processing times may vary and can take several weeks to complete.
- Candidates may be fast-tracked through the hiring process at the request of a campus; however, this only applies if the campus is considering the candidate for a full-time position pending certification.
