Hello, GTA Family!

I’m Mrs. Diaz-Wu!

I am thrilled that you will be in my class this year! Together, we are going to delve into the world of literature and cognition this year, and I can’t wait to get started! This is my seventeenth year of teaching in FBISD and my seventh year at the GT Academy, so you can probably infer that I love what I do. 😊

Middle school is an… interesting time in one’s life. An abundance of compassion and understanding are reciprocally needed from teacher and student. In essence, we will be spending a great deal of time together; it’s important to work together as a team. I know that each student is unique, which means you think and learn differently. It is my job, as your teacher, to help you grow as learners and good people of character.

In addition to teaching superstars, I am a mom of three, a wife of almost twenty years, a sibling, a daughter, an avid reader, an amateur runner, and a coffee aficionada. When I’m not grading papers, lesson planning, or co-sponsoring NJHS, you can find me jogging around my neighborhood, picking up my daily cup of Starbucks, or shopping at Target.

Finally, I can’t wait to get to know the rest of my students! Since I moved up to eighth grade, I have had the pleasure of teaching several of you last year – and/or the year before that, too! Yay for me!

These Are a Few of My Favorite Things:

COLOR: iridescent pinks, purples, & teal

SEASON: fall and winter

SNACKS: dark chocolate, tree nuts, and fruit

QUOTE: “Feet? Why do I need them if I have wings to fly?” - Frida Kahlo

FAVORITE PLACE TRAVELED (so far): Paris, France

One more thing that you should know is that I plan for this year to be great! Each student has the potential to become whatever he/she/they aspires to be with hard work and determination. I truly hope to bring that out in all my students.
