Important Information Regarding TELPAS Assessments
What is TELPAS?
The Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS) is a system used to assess the English language proficiency of English Language Learners (ELLs) in Texas public schools. It measures how well students understand and use English in four areas:
- Listening
- Speaking
- Reading
- Writing
Who needs to participate in TELPAS?
Students identified as English Language Learners are required to participate in TELPAS.
When will TELPAS assessments be administered?
Specific testing dates will vary. Please refer to the Testing Calendar for the most up-to-date information.
If your child is required to participate in TELPAS, you will receive further information soon.
TELPAS results provide valuable information to teachers and support staff to help ensure that English Language Learners receive the appropriate level of support to succeed academically.

This year, students enrolled in FBISD schools will take the NWEA MAP assessment. It will be delivered at the beginning, middle, and end of the year. This assessment will replace REN 360. Parents will be notified prior to the administration, as well as when the results are ready for your review. The purpose of MAP is to assess how students are progressing throughout the school year in Math, Reading, and Science. Mrs. Meagan Williams
I am the Campus Assessment Coordinator (CAC) at QVMS. As the CAC, I am responsible for coordinating all State and National assessments (STAAR, TELPAS, PSAT, etc.), District-required assessments (NWEA MAP, District Learning Assessments, etc.), and assisting with planning student interventions. I also assist stakeholders with data analysis to drive instruction and facilitate student learning.
Testing and assessments provide educators, students and families with valuable information about the progress students are making. They are tools that can show us where students may need remediation or acceleration. Rarely are tests fun, but they are necessary. We endeavor to encourage students to take every opportunity to show what they know seriously. We are better able to provide the appropriate services when we have an accurate idea of what students are capable of achieving.
If your student needs additional assistance in a class, please refer to their teacher's page for the tutorial schedule.
