We are so happy to welcome your child to their final year of elementary school! This will be a pivotal year for your child as we prepare them to move on to middle school. We want you to be assured that we will do our best to make this a great year full of challenges and rewards that your child will be proud of.

 In fifth grade reading, we focus on working with higher level thinking skills to encourage students to analyze passages and novels throughout the year. We want to encourage a love of reading and would like for our students to have reading materials available in class daily. 

 In math, the students will have interactive notebooks that they will be working in daily. These notebooks will serve as the foundation of their instruction. Students will build their notebooks this year through creative note-taking and engaging activities in both subjects. Students are allowed and encouraged to take these notebooks home each evening, but they must be returned to school every day. There will be a review sheet in addition to the math notebooks to prepare for each math test. 

Reading and social studies will be integrated  to encourage an interest in American History. We also prepare interactive notebooks where the students complete individual and group activities. In science, notebook pages will be occasionally finished for homework, and these notebooks will serve as their study guide to prepare for tests. These notebooks are used in class daily.
