Hello, Wildcats!

My name is Monique Crittenton. I began my teaching career in Aldine ISD as a Kindergarten teacher more than 20 years ago...Where does the time go? I have been teaching in Fort Bend ISD, and at Oakland Elementary, since the 2019-2020 school year.

I am a native Texan who was born in the Piney Woods region of Northeast Texas. I grew up in San Antonio and graduated from THE University of Texas at Austin (Hook 'Em!). I listen to different kinds of music, and I love going to concerts. You might catch me in The Woodlands at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion (see picture). I am a dog person, and as an extension, I LOVE wolves!! I am known to spend quite a few Saturdays in Navasota, Texas at The St. Francis Wolf Sanctuary.

Teaching at the Early Childhood - Primary level is my passion. I am an advocate for building a strong academic foundation during the early years of education by using hands-on and real-world experiences. It is so much fun to see the excitement on a child's face when they realize and understand something! I also want to instill a love of learning and a good work ethic in your child. The majority of my teaching career has been at the Pre-Kindergarten or Kindergarten level, but I am enjoying my time in 1st grade. It has truly been an adventure. I welcome the opportunity to work with you as we prepare your children for the next phase of their education.

Family: I have two nephews, and I am the blessed and fortunate granddaughter to a wonderful woman who was born in 1912. (That's grandmother lived to be 108 years old! She passed away in April 2021. She was about 6 weeks away from celebrating her 109th birthday.) I visit the websites of local animal shelters in search of the perfect fur-kid...a chihuahua or yorkie. I am happy to say that last year I adopted a chihuahua from a local animal shelter. His name is Loki. I adopted him about two weeks before the winter freeze happened. I am so glad that he was not a stray dog roaming the streets of Houston during that time.

Hobbies: History is my favorite subject, so I love going to museums and watching documentaries. I listen to different kinds of music, and I love going to concerts. I am a wannabe foodie, so I like to taste different cuisines. I also like to travel.
