My name is Kayo Mitra, and I am an EL Specialist at Colony Bend Elementary. This is my 26th year in education, of which 16 years in ESL. I am originally from Japan, but I have been living in this country for over 30 years. Learning a new language is my passion! Other than English, I can speak Japanese and Spanish fluently, and I am currently learning Chinese and Portuguese. My family includes a wonderful husband and two sons. We are a multicultural family, and we are all multilingual. Three languages are spoken daily at home! As a family, we love to travel to many different places.

I love my job as an EL Speacialist. I support and coach classroom teachers so that they can provide the best learning opportunities for our ESL students. It is a challenge to learn a new language, especially if you are new to the country. At CBE, we strive to create a safe learning environment where students can feel safe and welcomed. Each student brings a gift of talents, and it is our job to help them show their talents while learning a new language.
