Career Day
-
The purpose of Career Day is to introduce the students to a variety of career choices. We are asking speakers to present to four different groups of children in grades 2-5. You will have four sessions with a maximum of 25 students per session. About two weeks prior to Career Day, the students will look at the list of speakers/career options and will select the four that most interest them. The schedules will be printed out and the students will be responsible for going to the right classrooms at the appropriate times. You will have 30 minutes per session to present your career (which includes questions & answers). Please let the students know:
> Why you chose your career
> The positives, as well as the negatives about your career
> The skills needed in your career
> The education that is required in your field (and why it is a good idea to work hard in elementary school J)
If you are interested in presenting at Career Day, please complete and return the attached form. I will be inputting speakers into the Career Day computer program the following week so they can select the careers that interest them. The plan is for students to research the careers in order to ask intelligent questions.
Please plan to arrive at school between 8:30-8:45. You can have a light breakfast, check in and pick up your nametag. You will need to be in your assigned room by 8:55. You can park on the street on the side of the school or in the side parking lot.

We need 15 speakers from a wide variety of careers. It will be a “first come, first to speak” formula so please send back your form at your earliest convenience. If you find that you are unable to fulfill your commitment, please let me know as soon as possible. We will have a lot of children who will need to be rescheduled (potentially 100 students). As I get your form, I will send a confirmation email. If you have not heard from me two days after submitting the form, please email me at karol.hartman@fortbendisd.com. Last year a couple of students forgot to turn in their parent’s forms…everyone was disappointed.
You will need to have cleared a Criminal History Check to be able to go into the classrooms to speak.
