What is it?

Purpose: The purpose of the Texas Readers Club is to encourage students to read across a variety of genres and to encourage students to share what they have read through a variety of activities.
Requirements for Membership: Read 15 books in the genres described below.
- 1 Award or Honor winner (Caldecott, Newbery, Bluebonnet, Coretta Scott King, etc.)
- 7 Fiction
- 1 History (901, 909, 913, 930-999)
- 1 Travel (910, 914-919)
- 1 Biography (B or 920)
- 2 Science (500, 600)
- 2 Other nonfiction books from any number (000-999)
Requirements:
- Read no more than two books by the same author (only applies to the required 15 list).
- Books must be suitable for the student’s reading level (all books, including extra books).
- Students must show that they have read each book by the following:

- A parent or guardian’s signature.
- A teacher’s signature.
- Creating a book report (applies to the 15 required books).
- Students must complete a minimum of three types of book reports: written, oral, and creative.
Record Keeping:
- The students will maintain individual record sheets and submit them to their teachers by May 9th, 2025.
- The Librarian will verify the accuracy of the list, together with the number of books read for the current school year, including Bluebonnet and summer reading. Verified lists must have both the author and title listed as well as a verifying signature.
Awards:
- Library staff will provide student certificates and an award program in May.
- Medals are achieved by the number of books read
