My name is Gordon Debraine CLASS-PLUS Teacher at Dulles ES and here is a little bit about me. I was born in Johannesburg, South Africa and raised in Peterborough, Ontario and Alief, Texas for the last 40+ years. I completed my Bachelor's in Sociology in 2006 with a minor in Criminal Justice and received my Masters in Clinical Sociology in 2013 from Texas Southern University. I completed all my requirements for the A+ Texas Teachers ACP program by passing my Special Education EC-12 and the Generalist EC-6 content exams. I have 13+ years’ experience as a Structured Learning Class teacher for Houston ISD (Autism), Academic Behavioral & Communication (Autism) for Fort Bend ISD, REACH1 (Autism) teacher for AliefISD and CLaSS PLUS teacher in Fort Bend ISD.
During my time teaching in HoustonISD, Fort BendISD, AliefISD, and back to Fort BendISD again. I have always worked at the elementary school level to help nurture young minds by providing individual, small group and whole-class instruction to students with Autism and behavioral deficits. I’ve employed a variety of hands-on activities, teaching techniques and the use of different behavioral strategies to accommodate the different learning modalities, and their differentiated levels. I will strive to meet the needs of your child and recognize the importance of trust and their social-emotional well-being by establishing honest relationships and a comfortable yet challenging learning environment.
The past 13+years, I have worked with parents and administrators to help understand and establish individualized goals that address the academic/social/emotional deficits of our young scholars. In my third year of teaching, I became the Chairperson of the special education department, Campus Induction Coordinator and was elected by my peers as Campus Teacher of the Year. Prior to teaching, I was a Master BMW Technician for Advantage BMW and I worked on workforce-based community initiatives with Workforce Solutions, Texas Youth Commission Juvenile Probation, Big Brother& Big Sister, Youth Development Strategies with Ben&Jerry’s At-Rick-Youth Project, Hands Across the Hood with Texas Southern University and worked for Neighborhood Centers Youth Summer Jobs program and managed a nonprofit at-risk youth job training program with the United Way. We worked with youth ages 14-21 on life choices and career training skills, which helped our youth in correlating the importance of education to their career goals. We worked with them on how to manage financial responsibility and the understanding of how what they were learning correlates to their career and life goals. I've gained valuable group management skills and developed strong positive relationships with the youth that I’ve trained through these programs. Also, I coached and mentored youth football league(5-12), teaching them how to work together and how to develop as a team.
It will be an honor to work with your children and help them realize their potential. I look forward to speaking with you and fostering a honest relationship.
