Welcome to ESL program!
My name is Kayo Mitra, and I am one of two ESL Support Teachers at Sullivan Elementary. This is my 25th year of teaching, and I have been an ESL teacher for the past 15 years. I am originally from Japan, but I have lived in this country for the past 31 years. Learning a new language is my passion! Other than English, I can speak Japanese and Spanish fluently, and I am also learning Chinese (Mandarin) and Portuguese. My family includes a wonderful husband (from India) and two sons (20 and 15). We are a multicultural family, and three languages are spoken at home! As a family, we love to travel to many different places.
I love my job as an ESL teacher. My students inspire me to be a better teacher and better person. It is a challenge to learn a new language, especially if you are new to the country. I strive to create a safe learning environment where students can feel safe and welcomed. Each student brings a gift of talents, and it is my job to help them show their talents while learning a new language. I believe that the teamwork between the teacher and the parents is crucial in student's success. Please contact me anytime if you have questions or concerns. My conference time is 10:45-11:30 daily.
