Ms. Monique Chatman
I am Monique Chatman, Math Specialist at Marshall High School. After graduating from Galveston Ball High School, I went on to graduate from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) with two degrees, a B.S. in Mathematics Education and a B.B.A. in Accounting. I have two classes remaining before I complete my M. Ed in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of St. Thomas.
As a child, I realized that I had a gift for mathematics that others did not seem to have. As I grew older, I determined one of my career goals to be to transfer my love of mathematics to as many others as possible by influencing math instruction. It is imperative that I encourage the teachers at Marshall High School to use lessons that will allow students to visualize, explore and investigate math concepts, promote inquiry based learning and allow all students to be active learners.
It is my commitment to help students develop an appreciation for mathematics. My passion is to help prepare students for the future in all areas of life. Helping students open their minds as to how mathematics is used daily, will contribute to eliminating the fear that is associated with the study of math. It is my intent to have all of our students fully prepared to enter the next level of math at the appropriate time. I will forever be a teacher and life-long learner at heart. I am grateful for the opportunity to extend my reach to more than one classroom. It is my pleasure to serve you!
