• Missed School? What to do when your student is absent with email and hand holding pen icon

Missed School?

  • Within 5 school days after the absence:

    • Email an absence note to the school's attendance clerk
    • Turn in the absence note once the student returns to school

Absence notes must be received by the Attendance Office within 5 days of returning to school, or it will result in an unexcused absence. Parents can attach supporting documents, such as doctor's notes, to absence note emails.

  • Tardies/Arriving Late to School

    • Students are considered tardy if they arrive after 8:10 am. If the student arrives after 10:00 a.m. (official attendance time), the student will be marked absent.

    Leaving School Early

    • Parents and students must adhere to the following procedures:
      • Please send an email to the Attendance Office prior to when your child leaves so we can have your child ready for pickup.
      • For your student's safety, parents/guardians picking up the student MUST be on that student's emergency contact list and have a valid picture ID.
      • No student may be picked up within 35 minutes of dismissal.

    Notes REQUIRED after an absence

Please email the attendance office or send a note within 5 school days of an absence regardless of reason.  Notes must include: student’s name, grade, reason for absence, parent’s name and contact number.  If an excuse is not received within five 5 days of the absence, the absences will be coded as unexcused.

    • Turn notes into the Attendance Office not your teachers.
    • All absences are considered “unexcused” until the attendance office receives an explanation of the absence that meets district guidelines as excused. See FBISD Student Parent Handbook - Attendance Policy, Pages 29-33.
    • Please allow two (2) business days for updated attendance to reflect in Skyward.
    • It is not necessary to call the school when your student is absent.

    Medical (Doctor’s) Notes

Students absent for more than three (3) consecutive days because of a personal illness must bring a doctor’s note clearing them to return to school.

    Absences that are considered “excused”:

    • A medical or dental appointment
    • Personal illness
    • Death in the immediate family
    • Observing religious holy days
    • Court proceedings, Juvenile Court/Probation meetings in which a student is required to attend.
    • Immigration or Social Security Office appointments
    • Student performing “Taps” at a military honors funeral
    • Visiting a parent/guardian on military leave

*Please Note: Family visits, vacations or personal absences during regular school days are not acceptable absences and will NOT be excused. Family emergencies are considered unexcused unless specific information is provided and is approved on a case-by-case basis by the principal.

    Early Dismissal

No student check-outs after 2:45 pm.

A parent/guardian or authorized person must sign students out at the Front Office.

    • A driver’s license or photo ID is REQUIRED when signing a student out.
    • Students will only be released to a person listed on their emergency card.  Go to Skyward Family Access to verify who is listed.

This procedure is necessary for the safety of all our students at Pecan Grove Elementary School.

Elementary School Attendance Counts!

  • Daily attendance in school is a strong indicator of future success.

Per the Student Attendance Accounting Handbook provided by Texas Education Agency, a student is considered either present or absent at the official attendance-taking time, known as snapshot.

Each campus attendance is determined by the number of students present at this important designated snapshot time. The elementary school snapshot time is 10:00 a.m.

To ensure academic engagement and successful learning, all students should be present daily by snapshot and remain academically engaged all day.
