Jennifer Smith, Math Instructional Coach

Greetings Mission West Elementary Families!

I am originally from Toledo, Ohio, but I got to Houston as fast as I could! I received my bachelor's degree from the University of Houston (Go Coogs!) and my master's degree from Lamar University (Go Cards!). Over the course of my nearly twenty-one years in the field of education, I have worked hard to acquire a wide-variety of knowledge, hoping to use that experience to become a well-rounded educator. I started my career teaching first, fourth, and fifth grade students of all ability levels in self-contained classrooms while coordinating and directing an after-school program where I also taught dance, drama, journalism and study skills. After that, I moved on to become an administrator at the middle school and elementary school levels. My next adventure was starting my own business, through which I was able to support struggling students and coach teachers. While there were so many aspects of having my own business that I loved, I missed being part of a school community. Now, I am extremely proud to be a member of the MWE family!

My goal as an Instructional Coach at MWE is to support, motivate and encourage students and teachers in order to help them grow and increase their belief in their abilities and themselves! In my free time, I love to paint, dance, kickbox, play with my three darling doggies and spend time with my husband and adorable nieces and nephews. I am looking forward to another amazing year as a Mission West Wildcat!
